Want to start a Ringo kit project - HELP!

Hello Everyone! I'm a fairly new member and I've been enjoying all of your posts so far. Thanks for all of the great information!

Here's my situation, I currently play a modern Ludwig kit and I've always wanted a Ringo kit, but I just can't fork over several thousand dollars. Does anyone have any ideas? Does piecing together a project kit make any sense, or is it not worth the time/money?

I have some excellent Ludwig 3 ply maple shells, 22, 12, 16 that I've been thinking of rewrapping and going from there (note, I have NO hardware, just shells). Is this a good way to go, or should I go another route? Any ideas would be much appreciated. I had a chance to pick up a decent complete 60's Club Date kit, but I passed it up (I'm regretting it right about now).

I'm sure you have run across this page.. so your sizes work for kits 3&4 but I think building kit #1 would be the the coolest thing to do... if you're into that.

Building that kit out of your old parts would be a blast.. why not give it a shot... If you got the time, space, tools, know how and a little cash flow to keep it moving.

Thanks Jim! Those are some excellent links. Wow, I can't believe that first one :)... Any advice on where to get decent Ludwig classic lugs at a reasonable price? Also, has anyone had experience with Black Oyster Pearl re-wraps and is there a preferable source for purchasing? I'd love to hear any first hand success stories.

The rewrap that you see on newer Ludwig "reissue Ringo kits" are really nothing like the original. I know Jack Lawton can get you retro Black Oyster Pearl wrap that will look at the very least , very close (I have only heard of him offering it so I don't know exactly what it looks like but it is described as the same original pattern.) I'm not sure where he gets it from so you can either search around or call him personally, or I'll be able to ask myself in a few days and I can get back to you.

I have read in a couple place, including this forum, that all drum wraps come from the same manufacturer http://www.delmarproducts.com/Default.htm

I think these guys have a couple examples of "new" Beatles kits made with the modern version of black oyster pearl http://www.jamminsam.com/ http://www.jamminsam.com/black_oyster.htm

Jack Lawton has an amazing reputation for doing incredible things with drums so I sure would take any opportunity to get some feedback from that shop.
