The only W&A drums I own is my Big Blue kit from 1935. Gretsch shells that were reworked by W&A. Most unusual hardware I've ever seen on a drum kit. All of the drums have three re-rings! I saw another thread where the daughter of RGB added some insight into the company along with a member who used to work there along with Jeremy Esposito, the new "owner of W&A". Hopefully they will all be at the CTC Drum show this year.

Since I met Jeremy at the CT drum show and picked up a new 2016 Walberg & Auge Chrome and Steel made by Rob Kampa I started to read all about the drums and their history. I have been on the hunt and acquiring a few of the snares because they really intrigue me. No kits yet. They are fantastic sounding drums and exceptionally well made, hence the Perfection branding. Here are a few I have so far.

1917 Concert Snare (On the inside it is marked in pencil 4717 and the number burned in 04717 and 4717 leading me to believe it is a 1917 snare)

1963 Maple Marcher

1964 All Maple (RGB 11-64)

1969 Sea Blue and Agave Green wrap (RBG 4-69)

2016 Chrome and Steel (RK 00075)

The snare drum that came with Big Blue has that same Rogers strainer as your green agave snare. Took me awhile to figure out it was Rogers, it's an old model strainer. Very cool drums you collected. I hope you get to play them from time to time.

Those aren't Rogers throw offs. They were more boxy. If it's the one I'm thinking is the one you described as Rogers.

I think that the little strainer we're talking about here is the simple strainer used on the 1950's-1960's lower level Rogers snare drums. W&A made a bent metal cover for mounting over the the exposed innards of that little strainer. They work very well on my W&A snare drums. For all I know, W&A might have manufactured those little throw-offs.

Just curious,it seems like when someone finds a kit or snare it usually is in the northeast,where and how did you buy a W and A set?at the factory?or did they have dealers in the northeast?

Most of mine came from the New England area. My marcher actually came from the west coast. Found it on CL in Los Angeles.

John, I actually play all of the snare drums and kits in my collection, except for the 100+ year old antique snares. I trade them in and out of the set I am using at the time. However, some of the more rare snares (the ones where there were only a few hundred made) I keep in pristine condition and don't play them, other than a test run when I first got them.

I picked up this incredible kit from Wood & Weather Drum shop.
