I acquired a 1958 W&A snare last year that is missing a part. It has a throwoff that works smoothly, one of my favorite vintage throws. The problem is, it's missing the cover that stops the arm from disengaging. I have searched eBay every day for this part, but have had no luck. I could get one machined but would rather it be original. Any ideas?

My understanding is that the strainer pictured is a Rogers economy model (Orchestra?) with a bent metal face guard over it. Is this what is on your drum? I am not very handy as a metal worker, But, I think even I could make this type of face guard for it.
No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

That's the one. I know it can be made, just looking for an original. I'll search Rogers and see what I can come up with.
