I cracked the bass drum on my 1976 clear vistalite kit, serial number 1213847. I spent some time looking for a replacement and found one on ebay last week that was advertised as an early 70s with serial number 1198382. The drums looks very comparable except for two things that I wanted to run by people here-on the one that arrived today, two of the lugs are screwed right through the seam of the drum-on my other one there is no lug through the seam-is this normal? The other thing is on the one that arrived today the post mount screw on the drum is literally a screw, as opposed to a black knob I have on the other one-is this normal? My thanks in advance for any information......

I can say that my '73 Vistas came with a hex head bolt to tighten onto the tom holder post. It used the same t-wrench as the nuts on the tom brackets.
Ludwig Vistalite Big Beat set consisting of:
14” X 22” bass, 16” X 16” floor tom, 8” X 12” ride tom, 9” X 13” ride tom, 5” X 14” snare
Ludwig 201 Speed King bass drum pedal
Ludwig 1124 Spur-lok hit-hat with Ludwig Standard Paiste 14” cymbals (760 & 770 gr) with ching-ring
Two Ludwig Standard S-270 cymbals stands
18” Zildjian crash cymbal (1550 gr) and 20” Zildjian ride cymbal (2130 gr) with CAMCO sizzler
Gibraltar motorcycle seat-style drum throne with backrest
I have a set from 73-74 and 76 I will check what the seams look like and the t handle on the bass drum.
From what I can remember the black handle is later and they did move the seam location at a later time also.
The replacement is older and sounds correct.
My 73-74 set has the lugs on the seam and the hex screw.
Ludwig did change to black plastic t-handles on the bass drum at some point.
Just not sure when.
Thanks for the info-didn't know quite what to make of it when I saw it-just seemed odd to see it both ways and structurally I wondered about having the lug in the seam.
The post hole seems a little different too.
Debating whether to change it out as I do like the knob as opposed to the screw and since I am not going to do anything with the cracked shell I have some spare parts inventory that I can either use to make the mod or sell......don't need two posts, two sets of claws, two sets of spurs, hoops, etc.
So glad I found a clear bass drum in excellent condition-cant wait to get back to playing them!
