I need some help. Just bought a BEAUTIFUL vintage 1983 Yamaha Tour Custom kit (I'll try to post some pics tomorrow). According to the badge serial number, the kit was made in September of 1983. The 12" tom serial number is TT-812-GE. What does "GE" indicate about the construction/manufacture of these drums?

Tour Custom drums consisted of a mahogany/birch blend . My brother ( r.i.p.) had a double bass 6 piece kit that sounded fantastic . Badges say Made In Japan I presume . Not sure what the GE stands for , though . I think GA meant it was a wrapped drum so if yours is lacquer the GE probably stands for that .

I think you're right. The kit is finished with the "Real Wood" satin-type finish from that time period. Thanks for the comment!
