Vintage Yamaha Drums - Any Idea?

Loading...

Hi there,

I am curious if anyone knows anything about these Yamaha drums? They have a leatherette wrap, which I've only ever seen on the older Ludwig black panthers. I can't seem to find much online about Yamaha drum history. Does anyone recall if there was ever a leathette wrap on 70s Yamahas? He seems to believe they are factory original.

Cheers!

I suspect that the wrap is not original. I've certainly never seen one like that. Maybe ask the seller. One of the coolest things about Yamaha kits from this era is the wraps. The build quality is great too but the wraps are great. Maybe the original wrap is under the leatherette.

I would take a closer look, as is, if the cymbals are included, it's worth it. Drums are close to that without snare if original

Yamaha vintage drums were made of birch and quite well, metal hoops were typical of that era. My limited knowledge of their tom holders make me wonder without having a closer look at the holder. The badge looks right from what I see, but again a closer look would help.

If you're close, ask to go by and take off one head of each drum and inspect, especially the bass drum. Make sure all the rods tighten and loosen. Some sellers allow, if they don't, then I'm kind of turned away. If it's like a brown panther finish, that's new to me.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....
