Well I finally did buy this set. I ended up paying a bit more for them but they came with some modern hardware, hihat cymbals, wood hoops (as well as the originals), a whole set of lugs, mounting hardware, hoops etc off an identical kit that someone had removed the wrap from. He still has the shells that I hope to get if possible to do a re-wrap. Also came with another same model Yamaha wood snare that just needs a lever for the throw-off. The lever just screws in. Mikey -do you have one?The kit is in amazing condition, the only thing missing being the inlay for the original metal hoops...and of course the original stands and pedals. Even has most of the original heads as well the new ones he fitted.I will still strip and clean everything despite the great shape they're in. Will post new pics when done. Here it is now though.

I'm looking at these drums and have read here that they are better quality than most other MIJ stuff. However, this looks to have a 6 lug (or 12 if you count both sides) bass drum which I would have thought would indicate a budget model. It's nice that it has the original snare and most of its original heads but is missing a BD hoop. No hardware though. Is it any good. Asking roughly $275 in US money. I think some yamaha shells from that era had birch or beech in the shell composition, earlier had luan with solid wood re rings,It looks from the picture that the kick could have different lugs ,they look more generic to me,and more like the snare lugs,the tom lugs look like the "tailight" style lug that yammy used for the earliest version of the recording series.Could be a transition type set or pieced together.Cool looking kit for sure,Maybe the guy will change his mind after he let's them sit there doing nothing for awhile.I have seen really nice complete late 60's early 70's sets go for 400.00 to 500.00 U.S but that kit looks like more in the 300.00 350.00 range tops to me.
