1930's Ludwig block's amazing condition with holder... 17 bids ended at $315.

Man those colorful blocks look great on these old kits.. very cool!!

From what I have read about these is that with Leedy, they came unfinished and at the factory they finished and pitch matched them...

I remember reading it in an old catalog...

So, I think unless they are really in poor condition, I would try and finish match them and restore, rather then strip down and repaint..

Well, I picked up the blocks. I've asked the Web Master if he'd be kind enough to post a few pics of them. I haven't had the time to clean these up, as of yet.

I'm still open to suggestions regarding whether or not to "touch them up" or leave them "as is." Functionally, they sound great.

Also, does anyone know what type of mount would be used to go with the two metal "arms" that came with these?

Anyway I never realized just how desirable those temple blocks were. I was hoping to come across a nice set for me one day but with those prices, I don't know. Super cool blocks Old school, make sure you take extra special care for them.

Also, they're mounted on a parallel metal piece that's got two "arms" that fold out (picture window wipers on your vehicle) that either mount directly onto the bass drum or onto some sort of clamp. I need someone to help me out regarding the proper mounting of the "arms." I've asked the WebMaster if he could be so kind as to post a pic of the "arms" so that you'll see what I'm talking about. I would keep them as is. Honestly though, it probably would not matter if you touched them up though, like people do with old bass drum hoops that have paint chipped in spots. Only difference is that the blocks were played.

Advantages: Look nicer. (But even if they weren't touched up, would you think any less of them or the kit they are on?)

Disadvantages: History, the wear shows these blocks have been played, and played alot. Used to their full extent while in service. It gives it more character in my opinion, like how others view the yellowing on WMP. Also once they were freshly touched up, you will probably be hesitant from playing on it to keep it "perfect" unlike in its current state you might feel better on playing the already worn down blocks to show them off.
