Vintage Supra Heads

Loading...

Please, I have a beautiful late seventies or perhaps 1980 rounded corner b/o Supra, two hole strainer which is the best snare I have ever owned or played! I owe an amazing debt to a fellow member who wishes to remain anonymous. Since I am new to Ludwig drums but, am trying to learn , I am attempting to discover what the original heads might have looked like. Could they have been Weathermasters with the three circles (drums?) and the printed word "Ludwig" within? Clear on the reso side. Maybe they were the parallelogram style with "Ludwig" stamped within? Medium weight? If anyone has any information that would help me learn about these wonderful instruments, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Hi Brian!

Looking at my 1980 catalog clearly shows a coated Rockers head on the Supraphonic, with the parallelogram stamp. The snare-side head was most likely the X-Thin clear head. No picture of it, though. However, I've no doubt the Supra could have been ordered with clear Rockers, Silver Dot or even the Ensemble series heads. Again, all had the parallelogram logo.

Hope this helps!

I have a Ludwig LM-402, build date said to be 1980, and when I bought it, it was an NOS Snare, and I at least know it came supplied with a Clear Rocker Batter Head, with Black Center Dot.

Thanks very much for the information, guys. It is greatly appreciated! I think my chances of finding these heads are quite remote though.

I think Ludwig still makes "dot" heads, and clear heads.

Thanks, Bec! I'll certainly look into it. The semi-local music shop ordered me Ludwig parts before. As soon as I get a chance, I'll pay a visit. Thanks again, sir.
