Vintage Sonor Throne

Loading...

Hey guys,

I snagged this of off ebay and got it today. It's a vintage tear drop era Sonor drum throne. The seat or saddle is totally original, I am sure of that. The overall condition of this is very good. It has a lean back attached to it. My question is "Is the lean back on this stool supposed to be bare wood painted black or was it a natural finish, or was it upholstered?" Im pretty sure the curved wood on the lean back is original, and hasn't been stapled or anything. I am going to shine it up and add it to my teardrop kit. I was thinking about covering it with black leather with decorative tacks hiding the staples, or should I just refinish the lean back wood?

What do y'all think?

From the 1969 Sonor Catalog....

Appears to be painted wood.

The description is as follows:

Drummers Seat, Part No. Z-5801

Swivel "motorcycle-type" seat. adjustable back and height, solid construction, sturdy triangular base with rubber-tipped legs.

I've always been intrigued by this design. Is it comfortable?

What you have is correct. The backs appear to be cut from beech drums shells (which makes sense since Sonor manufactured their own) sprayed flat black.

The saddle is comfortable in the sense that I've never noticed any discomfort, even after four hours playing. I have one of the later versions that adjust by turning, like a piano stool. The rubber saddle and back are identical.

I know this post is a bit out of date; that's what happens when you GOOGLE something.

[SIZE="5"]This is why we should all ALWAYS actually post pictures

HERE ON THE FORUM instead of linking off-site.

This thread is over two years old and is

STILL OF HISTORICAL VALUE because the picture is posted HERE instead of having a link to a photo hosting site that no longer contains the photo or to a dead eBay auction or Craigslist listing.
