Vintage Rogers mixed and matched, oh BOY

Loading...

My father bought me a Rogers set 25 yrs ago when I was 13 years. I played like a madman for years than gave up playing for years. I just starting playing again. It feels good. I discovered when putting new heads on the toms that the drums are indeed Rogers BUT from different time periods. The maker stickers are different: one has the big "R" and the second a small "rogers, Holiday, dayton ohio," One is flat gray and the other speckled gray. I believe one is from the 60s and the other the 70s. The floor tom appears of a different make all togther, probably Pearl. And the bass is a Rogers, speclked gray with th "Big R" maker sticker.. The bass is a gray/speckled with white on the interior. All the drums are white so they appeared to a 13 yrs eyes as a complete set. I am wondering if I should hunt down floor tom with a rogers, hoilday with flat gray inferior on ebay and buy it. With that floor tom I would have a complate set of Rogers from the same era. Of course, it I can't find a match on color for the flr tom I would have to re-wrap it. The expense would be : pruchase of Rogers Holiday, white wrap, tools and adhesive plus my labor. It is worth it to go through all that just to complete the set?

You lost me. How would a "floor tom with a rogers, hoilday with flat gray inferior" complete a matched set if your bass drum is "speclked gray with th "Big R" maker sticker"? If I understand you correctly, almost any vintage Rogers floor tom would do.

It might be worth it. But, since you would be changing the finish, you'll want to find one cheap. I have an incomplete, flat gray holiday floor tom on ebay right now, but it has been bid up pretty high.

On another note, what type of Pearl floor tom do you have?

Sorry for confusion. I would need a floor tom with "speclked gray with the "Big R" maker sticker" to make a set. Unless the floor tom is indeed Rogers. I cant identify it. NO makers mark of any kind. It is vintage though. The interior is a natural maple color; its not gray or speckled gray. My guess it is may be Pearl. The bass may have bee modified to allow for a 2 tom extension off the bass drum. The hardware for the 2 tom extension says "Pearl". Could the bass have be drilled to fit this Pearl neck extension thing to make the kit into a 4 piece rather than a 3 peice? Could the floor tom with the maple interior still be Rogers?

Those are questions for someone with more knowledge than myself. I would need pics to tell you if that FT was Pearl.

[COLOR="DarkRed"]If the interior of the shell isn't grey, or doesn't appear to have been sanded to natural from grey, it's not a rogers. I mean, pretty simple to tell...does the hardware match any of the other Rogers hardware ? Of not, it's not a Rogers.

Posting a picture would help.

I have a 12x15 (15" diameter) Rogers Big R tom drum shell with hoops if you want it...providing you are in US or Canada because I don't wanna ship it overseas. $40 plus shipping. It is a shell I was going to use as a floor tom, add some big R floor tom legs, but I never got around to it. It was originally mounted off of a tom stand, it still has the memrilock mount on it.

It's white, in decent shape...the big R label is torn, however, and probably cannot be made to look very good again. A 12x15 makes a nice low tom, actually....it would complete your kit.

NOW: you would need to add leg mounts and floor tom legs to it, or just find a memrilock tom arm and mount it off of your ride cymbal stand....(maybe a better solution, actually.....but Memrilock arms don't come cheap...but they would be no more expensive than a set of Rogers leg mounts plus legs...so, it's a bit of a wash).

Update: the bass is a Rogers speckled (no label inside, but has "rogers" stamped on some hardware), 13" tom is gray interior with old Ohio label, and 14" tom is speckled gray with later "R" label, floor tom can not be identified.

Is it worth it to search out a rogers floor tom of similar vintage, and probably have to rewrap it to match, to create a "set?"

See photo of floor tom. Any idea what it is?

It does look like a ludwig...but it doesn't have the badge, or any Ludwig marks at all. Could the floor tom still be a Ludwig without the badge?
