Thanks, that makes sense...the drum in question is in Rob Cook's Slingerland book...the "chrome" wrap, cloud badge etc. would be what year?

[COLOR="Navy"]That's a beautiful drum Mike. Made sometime 1946 to possibly early 1948.

Key feature pinning down the date is the badge. This is the brass cloud in which the lettering is recessed and filled with tan enamel. Slingerland used this badge in the postwar years, 1946 - 1948 only. Prior to the war Slingerland's brass cloud badges had black enamel filled recessed lettering, or raised lettering with the background tan filled. Slingerland phased out its cloud badges on drums during late 1947 and early 1948, transitioning to the large oval.

Also the strainer fine tension knob and the tone control knob are the post-war large version. Prior to the war these knobs were smaller and thinner, as you know.
