Hi,

Has anyone seen '70s Premiers with mixed plies of mahogany and birch? Someone is selling a pair of drums ('76 purple wrap) with mahogany on the inside, and lighter plies in the middle. I've only heard of 3-ply birch or 3-ply mahogany on those '60s-'70s drums.

Premier did make mahog/birch/mahog shells in the 70s but soon reverted back to all birch shells. I, and many other guess that prevailing timber costs from Finland forced the issue at the time.

Wanted to mention that I brought up the question of a birch/mahogany/birch shell from Premier. My Beverley kit with blue badge and oval mount seems to have this B/M/B sandwich. The inner ply is clearly birch, and the middle ply is clearly very dark.
