vintage Premier rack tom tidy up

Loading...

This is a 8" x 12" Premier rack tom. The tom has been moved onto a RIMS mount (for cymbal stand). How do I fix up the hole(s) that's left. Is it really important to plug up the hole? Does it affect drum tone that much if I leave it as is? If I need it plugged up, how do I do it?

I use wood filler for such jobs, the stuff in a tin used for covering screws on wood skirting boards in the home. I first place some duck tape on the inside of the shell, so the filler in its soft state has something to rest against, fill up the hole and smooth off. sand when done to remove uneven bits.
