Vintage Pearl

In order to preserve the original drums "value", if that is what we consider to be the real reason we buy these old kits,(regardless of maker or manufacturing origin, as I figure 60s MIJ to be the best bargain going in drums today), I use an anchor. It allows us to not have to modify our original construction. Afterall, they are only $10, and sometimes you can get them on fleabay for a quarter ($.25). I bought 2 vintage anchors for like less than a buck, plus shipping, so it cost $4.00 to get two of them. I just happened to be the right guy at the right time, but new ones are simply cheap enough to keep you from having to mod your drums.

Also, since you will likely be re-covering the white kit in some manner, I would suggest you go with new 10 ply straight maple hoops. They are cheap enough and the sale of the Tiger Eye would cover a goodly portion of the new hoops cost. They are really inexpensive at this site, just pick your size and they will be there in a few days, and another great customer service oriented company...all you have to do is paint, stain or lacquer them. I use the wood hoops to eliminate most bass ring and get a deeper tone from my thicker shells and a cannon like blast from my thin shells.

+1 on the bass drum anchors. They work really well and are a great alternative to the headache of having to deal with spurs that either don't work or are missing, as is often the case with old MIJ sets for some reason.

To clear up some confusion and hopefully some of you can use this as a reference, this is definitely a pearl kit. I contacted the owner who i bought it off when i saw he was selling some pearl badges and it turns out they are off this kit, so mystery solved its a pearl, hopefully this can help with more identifications with the MIJ's i keep seeing
