Yesterday i bought this old pearl kit and the maxwin too dirt cheap. Im just wondering if anyone can tell me anything about the pearl kit? Im not 100% sure if the tom mount is the original. The original finish was tiger eye (theres some left on the bass hoop inlay) anyone got any idea what year etc. this is from? the shells are quite heavy and real thick. any help would be appreciated

The "white" Pearl set,mid sixties. The mount is recent CB 700.The Maxwins are mid 70's.That is a nice set-8 lug snare and floor tom, looks complete.I own a Royce set like them, and they are my go-to Church/low volume set.I needed, for practicality sake,to do numerous upgrades(spurs, tom mount and painted gray interiors). But the result is a low buck, round tone set.

Hey Wado; Nice kit - I could really use that hoop to complete a kit I'm restoring. PM sent.

According to the Vintage Drum Guide, since it has swing-out spurs,it's a Super Deluxe set that came with a rail consolette mount. Are there any extra holes in the bass drum or tom shell that would indicate otherwise? The other cheaper sets had a clip mount.

Okay, I'm wondering if it is actually Pearl, and not Star. Looking at the lugs, they seem to be the same as the ones I have on a Crown kit. Apparently, from what I understand, both Pearl, and Star produced drums with Crown badge, but to my understanding, the round badge Crowns, (which is what I have) were actually Star. Thinking that, perhaps the spur, and floor tom leg mounts may have been swapped at some point, as apparently the original tom mount was. There still seems to be some confusion in identifying these old MIJ kits, and it's cases like this that just seem to add to the confusion. I also have some Pearl stencils that have lugs more closely resembling Slingerland than these. Perhaps some interior shell pics might help to clarify, as well as any insight from other forum members that might be able to shed some light.

It definitely has the drill holes for the rail mount, just checked that. Judging by the super deluxe out of the catalogue, im pretty sure its one of them. The lugs, T Rods and claws are exactly the same. I think the fact that the shells are pretty thick also indicates it probably wasnt a cheap kit. Theres no photos from the inside yet because someone has painted the inside white aswell. Also the colour from the bass hoop inlay is listed as tigers eye in an old pearl catalogue so im pretty certain its a pearl

Tiger's eye was used by both, but in my humble little opinion, they are both Pearl kits...tom mounts, lugs.....lust too overwhelmingly Pearl for me.

EDIT: the leg mounts and cymbal arm mount, plus the "gull-wing" bass spurs all point to Pearl, 70ish, maybe a little before or a little after.....

The single, tiger's eye pearl hoop I figured would be the first thing that could easily be swapped out. Figuring that the lugs would be the least likely to be swapped. The snare drum is obviously Pearl, due to the badge, but again, snares are often swapped out as well, and again, something like spurs, (I've heard of many instances where those little peg spurs cause aggravation) could easily be replaced... so am I to ascertain then, that the round badge does not necessarily connotate Star? Or perhaps, is it a matter of common hardware suppliers between drum manufacturers??? Oh, the confusion! Any badges present on Wado's toms or kick? I'll have to post pics of my Crown kit on a separate thread to establish what I've got I guess.

... I've come across several kits/drums recently that have Ludwig embossed mounts that are obviously MIJ drums. Just sayin'...
