Vintage Pearl Snare Drum Identification (From France !)

Loading...

Hi everyone ! I'm Arthur, a 19 years old drummer from France !

I'm here to ask for your help ! :)

I've got, since many years, an old snare drum that I've restored. This is a pearl, with a "White Marine" finish.

I'm pretty sure (by seeking in catalogs) that the Pearl Logo is from 1977...

I searched a lot, at the begining I though about a Pearl president snare drum from '69 but It's not made of fiberglass and the logo is not the same...

After, I found a Giant Step pearl picture, and the snare looks like mine, but it's not the same color...

Each snare with same hardware and finish as mine I've found, is always made of fiberglass. But my shell is made of wood ! The wood looks quite "dry" and "light brown" coloured...

So I need expert advices... I post picture of the snare today, and tomorrow I'll post a picture of the shell if it's necessary !

I'll really love to know what model it is because I'll love this snare...

Thanks a lot :)

Arthur

The snare is a 14*5.5 and "PEARL" is engraved on the Zoomatic.

I am no expert at this, and others more qualified will eventually chime in. But what I see is a mis-match. Those lugs are from the 60s and 70s. Yet that badge is from the 70s or 80s. Question is, when did that badge come into play and how long did Pearl use those lugs?

I believe it is possible someone changed out either the lugs or the badge, though it must be confirmed that this is indeed impossible for an overlap of these parts.

Nice that you have a 10 lug. Nice that you have a nice wrap. I hope you have a kit to match! Great find!

As good as it sounds, have a pro check out those edges and make sure they are true and the best they could be. I had a Pearl made wood snare re-cut (mine is late 60s/early 70s) and it sounded even better after that.

Like I said, you will get more info as others discover your post. This does not appear too hard to figure out and you will get your conclusive answer.

Thanks for your reply and for the advice I'll check the edges ! Actually, the snare have an evans power center reverse dot, and remo ambassador drumheads and It sounds pretty good ! But I'll check the edges anyway ;)

That drum doesn't look altered to me. Circa 1970 Battleship lugs with all correct hardware and badge.

Look through the Pearl catalogs here on the VDG. If you don't find your answer - then contact Mikey777 or OsakaBop

This should be able to get it nailed down for you -

I honestly am not even sure what specific year that badge was - don't spread this around (hehe;) but I am not even sure that the Pearl badge dating is completely accurate correct on the VDG - at least this case with this one. I was doing some research recently on this badge and the date on the VDG page did not jive with the other features of the drum. Swapping out of parts is always possible, which makes this even more elusive.
