Vintage Pearl Maple kit Value

Loading...

I have a shot at buying a late 70s-early 80s Pearl maple kit of sorts and was wondering what the rough value would be. It has 2 14X24 kicks, missing front hoops,t-rods and claws. 14" and 15" concert toms and a 18" floor tom missing the bottom hoop and rods. It comes with an Export snare and another MIJ snare. The owner says it is in ok shape with no cracks in the drums but does have some scratches. Any Ideas on what the rough value i would be great. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like it should come very cheap - missing parts will prove costly.

Then it depends on the shape of the items you do get - and how much you want it...what coulour is it, and how difficult is it to find more toms that suits? This becaus I somehow presume you´d like more toms than 14, 15 and 18.

My bottom line would be - decide how much would you pay for the complete, playable affair - and then subtract the price of getting it right.

Then you have your price.

The Pearl maple shells of that era are very good quality shells, as good as the similar shells of their made-in-the-USA counterparts. But... no where near the resale value. So, a lot will depend upon what you intend to do with them. Jon Peterson's comments are spot on, so not much to add.

Any pictures?

Unless you have a specifif need for this kit...AND... the price is cheap, I'd certainly pass on it. Concert toms are just not popular. That, plus factoring in the price to acquire all the missing parts, just doesn't give me the warm fuzzies.

However, there is something to be said about the "therapeutic" value of bringing a kit back to life. Just be sure that if you do purchase it, you get if for cheap!

I passed on the kit. It had quite a few mods made to it and was more work than I wanted to take on. Thanks for all the words of wisdom.
