Vintage Pearl kit - Identification

Loading...

Hi there

I have recently acquired a vintage Pearl kit and I am hoping that someone here can help me to identify exactly which kit this is. As you can see from the photos attached, it features a distinct 'single' tom mount that attaches to the kick drum as opposed to the usual 'double' mount fixture.

Any input, suggestions, or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!

It does appear to resemble this W-5 from the 'W-Series Deluxe Outfits' that features in Pearls '78 catalogue. What do you guys think?

Yes-"W' designates wood construction, which in this case is Luan.

Thanks for the swift reply.

So a W5 from 78 it is then! What's the general opinion of such kits and what would be the equivalent in todays Pearl kits?

Everything I see in the pictures says late 70s W-5... except for ONE thing. That BD is of the 20-lug design. The W-5 22" BD only had 16 lugs.

Is the BD possibly a 24? It's not offered as an option in the catalog, but hey, we've all seen "variations" before, right?

No, it's a 22", and so it appears that the mystery deepens.

Anyone got any ideas?

That snare might be a BRASS model - get the magnet out.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!
