Ok - so, many of you have owned Vintage MIJ snares. That segment of vintage drums is HUGE. Some of those snares sound awful, some actually sound good.

(perhaps I should specify WOOD ones)

I used to have a Pearl made (thicker shell, no rerings) Dixie from the early 70s. I had the edges recut (to a sharper 45) and it really improved the sound.

Then, I restored a thicker shelled Star made Majestic - and that snare sounded GREAT with no modding. I suppose the thicker shell had something to do with it. It had the gray painted interior and was considerably thicker than the Pearl "thick" (no ring) equivalent.

So, that being said/shared.....you owners of Vintage WOOD MIJ snares - what edges have you found to make these sound good (or great?). Please be very specific about what you have and what edge cut it had (or that you did on it) so that I can have some idea(s) about my various MIJ snares that are in line for restoration.

Thanks,

John
