Vintage MIJ Alert

Loading...

Here's an alert to you CA residents that are into MIJ. Very cool color, Clubdate-type layout and a matching snare drum. I'd probably take it if I was home, or at least make them an offer. Probably nice and light for running out to the odd outdoor summer party gig.

I have a couple to add here. The GC in Fountain Valley has these two. The Rogers 360 is the cheap Taiwan one feature the cheap lugs that brake all the time - but what it cool color!

I am very surprised that the red badge Tama is still there. I know it is only a Swingstar - but I have read alot of love for those - that they are crazy durable - a great vintage road kit.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Hey Dan

That Tiger-Eye Pearl set was just like the first drum set I ever bought. I think I paid about $225 in 1963 for it.

I paid $350 new for this kit in 65...that's $2000 in today's dollars. My kit looks a bit like the one you posted. So - $600 now would be like paying about $100 for the kit when new in 1965 for instance. I'd say $600 is a good deal.

Answered a CL ad one time. Guy had 2 kits that were not quite complete, some hardware, couple junk cymbals, couple pedals (inc a double)....was asking like $150 for it all. Well, I just wanted a couple pedals and the root beer drums he had - but was even going to pass on the 24in Root Beer (Whitehall) BD - after much frank discussion - decided to let me have it all for 80 minus the Gibraltar double bass pedal. About 10 mins later he changed his mind and threw that in for free too. At one point when I was expressing my dismay for stuffing it all (BIG 24 inch BD) into my 4dr sedan....he actually threatened to drag it all to the end of his driveway. It was time for me to "save" those poor drums!

Ended up making my money back in about 48 hours and then about 200 in profit just selling the Slinger-Leedy FT parts (thrashed peeled/painted shell) Another 60 in the 14in FT. 13,14,24 in Root Beer and 12,20,14sn pre-68 thin re-ring blue sparkle kit that will be re-wrapped some day. The 13,24 Root Beers went to another member here in a trade - and he gave me a 13,20BD for it. Bought an orphan 16in FT from a DFO member, will cut down the 14 into a (matching) snare. When all is said and done - will end up with 13,16,20 thin/re-ring kit with a post 68 thicker 14 matching snare - all Whitehall badged. "Cost": (+260 and another project kit of shells)

THAT is how you build MIJ collections!
