Vintage Majestics...

I would like to see that picture!

From idrum4fun

I want to see the picture, too! Really reminds me of the first band I was in. We played for a dance at Beverly Hills High School. I combined my 4pc Lyra gold sparkle kit (looked like orange sparkle!) with a BDP St. George bass drum, rack tom and floor tom. A BIG, visually unmatched kit. No one cared back then!! LoLoLoLoMark

OK guys, here it is.

The white drums are my first, a 50s Gretsch. The black diamonds were the Majestics.

Bill,

I don't know what makes that picture more cool; the snazzy caps the band is wearing or the fiberglass sousaphone (cutting edge for that period). So what year was that? Has to be either before or after I was in high school (early 70s), because we all had shoulder length (or longer) hair.

So is that Big R high hat and crash cymbal included with the Majestic set?

And coincidentally, my first set was also a WMP Gretsch set, but stamped June 1946 in the shells.

No... and there's now a problem. They are in Newton, Ks, about 20 or so miles north of Wichita. One of my boys there is going to pick them up after the seller and I make final arrangements. I'm now at the seller's total mercy on those final arrangements, as he deleted the post on CL. I was stupid and didn't write down his phone number, and now I have no access to it.

I did talk to him once and did call back and leave my numbers on his voice mail (before he deleted the post), so I can only hope he calls me... :(

I am going to Tulsa to pick up those Ludwigs I told you about on Thursday afternoon though...

Mike, I graduated HS in 1973. This picture, however, had to be prior to that (more-than-likely the 71-72 school year) as I directed the pep band my senior year. Yes, the caps were crazy! We also (for the most part) wore matching shirts, like the one I have on in the picture.

It could have been my senior year, except for the fact that the band is in the background. This was during the time that the boys and girls played on seperate nights (shoot, they even had drastically different rules then!), and there was only two games a night (one JV, the last one the varsity). At half time of the JV game my junior and senior years the varsity teams warmed up on the court to my half-time length drum solos. My "jungle music" as the team called it led our team all the way to the 3A state championship game in Kansas in 1973! Sure was fun.

Oh, yeah, most of my friends and especially my music colleagues had shoulder-length hair. But not me -- I grew up on a farm, and my dad was "practical" about just about everything. To him, long hair not only made you look like a girl, but wasn't "practical" for working on the farm, especially during the summer months. Funny thing now though -- my dad is almost 86. He and mom (also almost 86) will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary this Christmas. Dad's hair is longer than mine now...

Yes, all that is part of the deal. Not bad for $100...

Got the Majestic this morning. They're actually in a little better shape than I thought! No pictures until Monday though when we get back home.
