Nice drum! A Pioneer in Wmp is just classic. 76190 is usually a late 64 drum or possibly a very early 65 drum. Same 3 ply shell as the 8 lug Jazz Festival. Most likely Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany.

Well thank you Mike I knew you would give me the info. I don't have the drum yet do you reckon the hoops might be steel or brass, im seeing rust and rust to me normally means steel. When I bought it I didn't ask questions just bought it. Thanks once again Mike for the answers..........sean

Glad to help anytime. I've got a 64 Pioneer with chrome over steel hoops and another 64 Pioneer with nickel over steel. I've also got quite a few 64 and 65 snares with brass hoops. Could go either way. I'd lean towards steel with the rust that you mentioned.

Can you tell if this is a Pioneer or something older? I paid $4 for it in 1970 and refinished it in 1971. I have found the correct snare throw off finally through a contact on this forum.

Can you show a pic of the throwoff?

Here are a couple of pictures. When I was still in high school, I changed out the throw off. That was a mistake. I was able to find part of it which is in the one picture and I bought the screw and the missing part from a person on this forum. The snare rim says Ludwig & Ludwig and I see some information that could date this drum to the 1920's but others that might put in in the late 40's or 50's which could either be a Pioneer or a Universal. I'm not sure. It was a concert band snare that I got in an auction from Springfield High School Delaware County Pennsylvania in 1970.

Here is a picture of the throw off that I currently have using my old part shown in the last post and the screw and other part that I bought from someone on this forum.

Here is the finished drum.....Results turned out great. I still wanted to retain the original look and didn't want to polish the nickel finish. All tension rods washers hoops strainer and butt are original. Thanks....sean
