Vintage Ludwig Nov 15 1965

Hi all! new to the forum and thought that the drum lovers out there would like to see the 1965 Ludwig snare drum that I have just restored/refinished.This is my first attempt at refinishing a snare drum and for all intents and purposes ..I think it turned out really nice.Any opinions welcome!

Also I'm mot sure of the kind of wood it may be,but I know that the outer most layer is or seems to be mahagony....any ideas??

great to be part of this forum! Cheers!

Really nice! Was it natural wood when you got it or painted?

Thanks allot! ,it was allot of work and elbow grease but well worth it to be able to gig with a 44 year old snare.Yes it was a natural wood finish similar to a mahogany finish....although super bad shape.I wanted to get it to as close to the original shade as possible so I used a red oak stain (2 coats) to get the desired shade. The sound is amazing, very warm but yet a hell of a crack.I'm using a Remo coated Ambassador on the batter and an Evans 300 hazy snare side.

I really enjoyed restoring this snare.now I gotta buy more to satisfy the thrill!!

Cheers!!
