I recently acquired a 50's Kent snare drum. It has the white badge and single tension lugs. Ive seen many 14" of this era but this is a 13". On the inside of the shell there is 13-52 written in pencil. I am assuming its the year and size of the drum. Is a 13" snare in this era of Kent common? Any help would be appreciated .
Vintage kent snare drum
The 13 is not quite as common as the 14 but there are still quite a few out there . That is a student snare . I have played a 13 just like that and it sounded quite good actually .
Thank you so much for your insight. I do like this snare. I put on remo pinstripes and a clear ambassador head. Sounds pretty good even with the original snares. Going to upgrade those to puresounds pretty soon. Was thinking about switching out the throw, but I don't know if modifying the drum is a good idea.
Although it doesn't compare to my all maple pdp snare, it has a good vintage and distinctive sound and is fun to play. And thats saying something for a drum that's almost 70 years old.

You can get numerous new strainers that have adjustable mounting holes so you would not have to drill the shell . The shell on that Kent drum is Maple btw .
Just my opinion, but don't put a Remo pin on that drum plz?
