Hey guys! Just got this sweet Bollero set off kijiji. Anyone know approximately what year it would be from, and am i correct in saying it was made by Pearl, not Star?

Thanks, Josh

Later 60's based on the double tom mount. I have the same kit, except mine has a U.S.Mercury badge, exact same badge as your sans the name. Mine is red though, and my snare was slightly different. Even had the same cymbal stand. Yes these were made by Pearl.

I second that it was made by Pearl...

Bollero spelled with two L`s were Pearl made, while Bolero with one L was a totally different company...

Cheers

Yes, I would say Pearl made.

I have pretty much the same kit (minus the second rack tom). It is a CB 700 (12/16/20), with a slightly different finish, but the lugs, spurs, brackets are all the same etc. The hex tom arm on mine is slightly different and looks very similar to Rogers Swiv-O-Matic arm, but otherwise the interiors and everything look the same.

Here's a pic (not me behind them.................another drummer was using them for a show).

I would say mid-70's. They sound good and are well built shells. I use them at my rehearsal space and consider it my "beater kit", but they still look and sound excellent. I was using them live because I was backlining drums and had four other drummers using it, all of whom I did not know, so if something happened to break, get knocked over etc., I wouldn't be too put out.

Are you going to be using that cymbal stand? I'm looking for one like that, if you're interested in selling.

Yes, the naugahyde came off remarkably easily. I think I still have it somewhere... I ended up staining and varnishing the shells - the sound difference was quite amazing and the kit sounded soooooo much better naugahydeless! I don't use the 22" BD at all anymore, but I do use the 12" tom as a rack and 13" as a FT, along with my little Drouyn tenor-converted BD. Hooray for Maxwin!

I'm thinking more mid 70's. I've owned 3 Bollero kits so far. 2 of the had oval Pearl style badges and the 3rd a badge shaped like a golf flag, made of a rubber like substance. They are pretty much Slingerland copies. All 3 have 3 rerings in the kick. My most recent one is comprised of 3 ply shells on kick and snare, but 5 ply shells without rerings on the toms. Since your Bollero has straight shells and coffin lugs this leads me to believe it was made in mid 70's, abandoning the 60's vibe for a more "modern" look.
