Vintage Carlton Dallas London drums

I was guessing at the date of my red marching drum. If I do some digging I'm sure to come up with a proper date.

Yes - it would be nice to be over there and take a good look around for Carlton gear. I have a 1930's 14" Carlton tom with a tacked reso head. It's missing the proper timpany-type t-rods. I'd love to find them. Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick) bougth it from "King Louie" (England?) and I ended up with it - eBay purchase.

I would say the Carlton drums in this thread are a steel at the price I see being offered. I'd "snap" them up in a heartbeat if I was over there anywhere near them. Man - you can't even buy a decent used snare drum for 150 quid..and here is a set of decent looking Carlton drums for that.

Someone over there should be all over these.

Here are a few pics of my Carlton "King" snare... 14 x 6.5, chrome or nickel over brass. It has got a serious punch to it! I think it's from the 1930's / 1940's. It really needs a proper clean-up, which I will do one of these days. I particularly love the "art deco" lugs. BTW - I think the Carlton / Dallas brand was taken over by Arbiter in the late 1960's... who then brought out "George Hayman" drums, which later became simply "Hayman", using the old Camco (later DW) style lug design - so that marching snare (nice!) couldn't be from the 70's. I'd just like to reiterate how good these drums are. I should be up snapping all available Carlton's, but I'm skint! HurtingHurting

Looks like a 1939, I believe its the first year they used those lugs. I buy all the old Carltons I can find

capt.wierd (or any other Carlton experts out there...): how would you rate this tom? Far from perfect, but it looks as though it may go for next to nothing... Worth picking up, do you think?

Cheers in advance for any info.

Not a bad tom, no wrap, and to do a rewrap, you have to remove the badge and grommet, restoring the badge and grommet is the hard part. The tom and badge look in great condition
