Vintage canadian zildjians

Just saw an ad on my local classifieds for a couple of vintage Zildjian cymbals that are stamped "Made in Canada"... Seller claims they're 60's.

I don't much on the history of Zildjians, let alone Canadian made ones..

Being Canadian, i feel a little embarrassed, but i'm Paiste man.. Ironically enough, he's also selling a vintage Paiste 404 20" ride, which i've been searching for for a long time ..Lol !..

I always wanted to collect some vintage Zildjians, regardless of where they were made.. Can anybody shed some light on these cymbals ?

Price is ridiculously cheap.. Check out the link..Any and all thoughts are appreciated ;)

Yup, Meductic, New Brunswick, along the St John River. Where the Sabian factory is now.

I've got a 16" MIC crash and love it

Price is good on those

I could be very wrong, but I thought older K's were made at the Canada factory. Maybe someone else will know for sure.

So, as i stated before in a previous post, i was interested in the Paiste 404 ride he was selling.. I emailed and asked if still available, and he said yes.. I don't have a car and he lives about a 50 min. drive, so i asked if he could deliver.. He said yes, i can come down and meet you at the desired location at 12 pm.. I said that was a little too early for me because i work at night and get to bed by 4;30-5;00 am.. Then this moron emails me back to say that he has someone else who's interested and that if this other person doesn't buy the cymbal, then it's mine.. He then wrote me another email saying that the latest he could show up at our meeting location was 12;30 pm, and even further than where i live !!?? Makes no sense.. He also "failed to mention" that someone was interested in the 404 ride when i specifically asked him if it was still available..Exepecting exclusivity, I though that, that right there is an indication of a very inexperienced seller, and an a-hole to boot.. I think that he just didn't want to come down to meet me , even though i said i would compensate him for an extra $10 for his gas, seeing as how it's ridiculously expensive these days.. No response.. I then wrote him back saying that i wasn't interested in this transaction anymore, period.. He never emailed me back..

Jerk... The way i see it, he stiffed me, so i stiffed him back..The only satisfaction i got from this monumental waste of time was that he lost an easy sale, after he deliberately screwed me over by conveniently attempting to sell it to someone else.. The ad for the 404 is still up and i imagine it will be for a while, as in this drumming community of Montreal, not too many fans of vintage beginner Paiste cymbals, when they are in fact, some of the best cymbals ever made by Paiste, as even stated by Gerry at Hazelshould.com..Now he's a got a cymbal collecting dust, just because he didn't want to travel in the early afternoon for 50 minutes.. What an imbecile.. With that being said, i've always filtered the people i'm dealing with, and NEVER go meet anyone without a phone call of confirmation, and thankfully, this idiot was no exception..

Sorry you didn't get the cymbal you wanted, human!

You're my fellow forum brethren and I have your back, but honestly, I can see it from the seller's point of view as well. If someone asked me to deliver a $55 cymbal that was 50 minutes away, I would probably say "No" also, even if I was being compensated for gas. It would be different it were a Vintage A or K worth a few hundred dollars, but not on something like this. However, that does not give him the right to not be honest with you or to not communicate with you.

I happened to find a 404 20" ride in a Mom and Pop, small music store in my area for $60. It had 7 rivet holes in it (homemade job, I am guessing), because the rivet holes are about halfway in-between the edge of the cymbal and the base of the bell. I love that cymbal! I use it with rivets, and I can use it on a rock gig or a quiet jazz gig and it can handle both very well. With the placement of the rivets being much further in than standard, the sizzle effect is more subtle, and is just perfect! It's one of the most versatile rides I own.

Keep your chin up, human; you'll find one again. Who knows, maybe the seller will wise up and contact you again, with a lower price? Here's hoping!
