Vintage Arai Stencil Drums in NZ

Loading...

Just came across this auction on the NZ version of ebay:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/music-instruments/instruments/drums/drum-kits/auction-494619793.htm

They are pretty rough .. having said that they look to be black diamond pearl under that crud!

Using the Vintage drum guide badge page I would say Arai brand Stencil

Looks like it was pulled out of a dumpster. Lower end MIJ, (Hoshino) and if the condition of the wrap is any indication... I'd walk away from that one, even for fifty bucks.

I agree with DaddyNowhere. I'm in NZ and closer than you to the kit but I reckon that kit will be a serious resto job and when you've got it all the way to the South Island, looking mint, with new heads and the missing parts replaced, you'll have a kit worth about $300nz. The wrap will be toast, too, so you may have to do something about that as well. There are much better projects out there.

It looks like that kit isn't even a match! One thing though, I'd prob get the kit, if for nothing else, parts.

For $51, other than the faded wrap on the floor tom this is in better order than the low res photo suggests. Haven't decided what to do with it yet. may blow it apart to complete another of these i have in better order, who knows, we shall see. I may just give it the once over and try and hock it off for a profit on TM and be the subject of scorn and ridicule from the masses........HA. Andrew is correct though, there are other better projects out there if you don't have bins of spares and are starting from sratch. Happy days. Like the Yammy you posted on TM Andrew, very tasty.

With no shipping issues $51 was a pretty good price, even if just for spares. I see that other partial kit you've had a bid on seems likely to be Arai also. You'll become the Arai man in NZ:) I hope those hi hat cymbals on the stand turn out to be something nice too.

I'm already getting sellers remorse with the Yammys and they not even sold yet. I am bursting at the seams though.

So after a bit of horse trading and a bit of time, here is the "pulled out of a dumpster" Arai drum set today. Just got to sort the kick hoops and finish the snare drum. This set only owes me about $80 for the red sparkle wrap ( which is actual wrap not self adhesive sign writers vinyl or upholstery vinyl.) and a front kick head. Cheap it may have been but the toms ( the only ones completed) actually don't sound too bad. Nice deep tone. Anyway, here it is.

I realize that this is a very old thread, but great job none the less. I just love seeing new life given to "dumpster finds". Cool1Cool1Cool1
