Looks like a self contained pad. I think they called these SDS-1s. A person could use their own sample on the pad without a brain or module. The biggest problem is the EPROM chip is missing and without knowing the specs of it, it may not even be available anymore which would render the pad useless. The other option may be to use it to trigger a brain. Even if it is NOS, my guess is its only worth $25. I recently saw a full 5 pc SDS 9 set for sale for $150 on CL.

The Simmons that is in business today is NOT the same Simmons company that made your SDS1, so you will not get any help from them. Eprom chips for these do come up on ebay once in a while. As far as them being currently available, nope. These have been discontinued at least 20 years.

I've seen SDS1 pads on ebay in worse condition go for several hundred in the past.

Was that SDS9 set complete with its working brain for that price or was it just a set of pads?
