Vintage 70's pearl drums ?

Just a quick question to all vintage Pearl aficionados..

Saw this really cool vintage 3 piece Pearl kit that an acquaintance/fellow drummer is selling up the street from my house, and just hoping someone could shed some light on this kit..

I checked out vintage drum guide.com and found this finish in some of the 70's catalogs, and all it said was that they were available in wood/fiberglass and maple shells, and that the finish is called

Blue Flash..Even though i'm a Ludwig man, I was thinking of maybe picking it up, seeing as how Pearl came out with a reissue of their WF shells with the same badges at this year's NAMM..

I think it's a super deal on some very underrated vintage Pearl drums..

All thoughts are appreciated..

Cheers !

Even though i'm a Ludwig man,

Ah yes, Ludwig. Excellent!

I don't like these Pearl drums, for cosmetic reasons [of arbitrary personal bias]. But you do, and so with that in mind, and because that rack tom is not a power tom, I'm gonna say for $140 you can't go wrong.

Chalk up one vote for "go!". :)

I'm inclined to think those are the lower-line luan drums, due to the single post bass mount.

You might be, but you'd be wrong. The Vari-Set system, as it was first known, was introduced in 1978 and could be ordered on any Pearl drum, fibreglass, wood-fibreglass, maple, dynamic wood, etc.

For $140 jeez. Get em now. Change the heads to coated. They look delapidated :)

He's holding them for me until i give him an answer in a week or so..

After that i told him to sell them if he had an opportunity.. I'm still not 100% on the actual buying thing, i guess it's because i thought they looked pretty nice and i would clean them up nicely, with some black dot heads going old school for the final touch, and the price was right.. I have another 7 days to make my decision..They would also look great under the lights..

Thanks to all for the insights.. I checked out vintagedrumguide.com and the badges on these drums were classified as lower budget drums of the 70's , but i'm assuming they couldn't be any different than the earlier 60's Pearl drum shell composition.. Still at $140, a great deal none the less.

I think they are the wood shells... Luan..

(If they were either Fibreglass or Wood Fibreglass, then they would have additional badges stating so on each of the drums)..

At that price it is a good buy IMO..

Cheers

BTW I was pretty tipsy last night when I posted, trying to be funny...well and honest too.:)

You didn't seem to take offense so that's good; I promise I didn't mean to offend, never do, never will...:)

downtownfarmer--None taken..You didn't seem condescending to me..

Whatever the case..I'm passing on these drums..They're good looking and a great deal, but money is a little tight these next few weeks, and if i buy a kit, even at this price, my wife will have my head on silver platter, or on one of my snare drums.. ;))

Shoot - this is the one to go after! See if they would take 225....this is a very coveted kit/wrap.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!
