Vintage 60s Pearl Kit

Loading...

I inherited this set from a friend who passed away. The sizes are 12,13,14snare, 16 and 20 bd. The wrap on this thing is in perfect condition. The website told me that this particular badge is from the 60's.

Any idea how much this kit is worth? are these early pearl kits sought after at all?

Welcome

Those are actually from the 60s. The badge guide on the Pearl site is not really all that reliable. Those should be worth in the 300-400 range, as they are Pearl. Old Japanese stuff is just not as valuable as American. Nice kit.

That is a nice set! One important thing, is the other hoop for the bass drum missing, or just not in the pic? Finding a matching hoop would be a nightmare and that would be the one thing really bringing down the value of this set. It looks great, the wrap looks like it's in very good condition, but off-hand, I'd probably put the value of the set somewhere between $250-300. If the other hoop for the bass drum and tension rods are included as well, maybe a bit more.

If you play at all, I'd set them up and enjoy them. There are plenty of people here that could give you some tips on getting them to sound their best. And a wrap like that would always be a talking point at a live show.

If you want to sell, I'm sure someone here could accomadate that as welll.

Please, post some more pics for posterity. Pics of the kit set up, close-ups of the tom mounts on the bass drum, floor tom leg mounts, and mounting brackets on the rack toms are most helpful.

I may be able to get a hoop for that bass. I'll check next time I go up there.

What skins are you using?

Are you asking me(backbeatkeeper) or the OP of this thread?

I had a pearl kit with the same badge and lugs and bd spurs as that, the tom mount was a rail with a diamond plate on the tom with a tab style insert but the hoops were sticksaver style, and mine had luan shells with some kind of hardwood, looked like maple, re rings, the interesting thing about the kit was that the kick had a center re ring, and the 14 ft had seven lugs per side.I can't see the mounting on you or backbeatkeepers kit but I have a feeling from the pics that mine could have been older.I love that wrap, mine were sky blue pearl and the wrap looked like it had not faded at all,and was without a doubt the best looking "under stage lights" kit I have ever owned.Musicians and non musicians would always comment on how good they looked.I bought them to use in a jumpin blues blues band and the look and vibe were absolutely perfect.I hope you keep that set and play and enjoy them.

No re-rings on mine, just a flat gray paint. As far as mounting goes, both 12 and 14 toms are 6 lug. All original, except for the bass drum mounted cymbal holder and arm. I had the original holder, but it had a stripped thread, and go figure, a new aftermarket one fit like a glove.

I've had many comments on the sound of the kit and the look, it's my main gig kit. Maybe I may have a double bass version of it soon...

My 69 Thunderking has flat, gray painted interiors as well. Very odd that they didn`t mention it in the 1969 catalog!Coffee Break2 I `m glad to hear someone else's has painted interiors as well. Makes me think it was factory and not an after-market job. thanks
