Vintage 1960's? Leedy floor tom drum in sparkling gold pearl.

Loading...

Hello everyone! So over the weekend I came across a neat drum. It's a Leedy drum from "I think" around the 60's. I see it's finish in a 1965 catalog (sparkling gold pearl), and the 16x16" size is used in the Shelly Mane kit. I can't find a ton of info on the drum, and I was just curious if anyone can confirm or pinpoint its date, and maybe give a rough estimate of value.

Additional info: All 3 legs are different, so if any are original, I doubt all 3 are. At least one tension rod is different than the rest. The washers are all over the place, with some screws on the inside having 4 or so. The wrap is tacked down with tacks that pierce through the drum's shell- I don't know if this is normal, or if somebody did this after-market. It also seem that someone tried to remove the blue Leedy badge at some point, as the grommet looks beat up on the inside of the drum, as so does the surrounding wood. Last thing to not is that all of the floor tom leg turn-keys, or wing-nuts are missing. There was a supplementary screw in one of the tom leg holes but I doubt that was how it was intended to work.

Thank you for reading! And I hope posting these pictures are neat enough to justify the threads existence!

I think that drum is from the 50’s, I’ll have to look at it on my bigger monitor, the date stamp is blurry.

You can check the badge and get an approximate date here on the forum.

The floor tom leg mounts look like the Slingerland with push buttons, but again, I’ll have to look at your pics on a bigger screen.

Nice drum, love mahogany drums!!

You're correct it's the 1957-1958 badged era. ths is slingerland leedy era. the shell is slingerland with leedy hardware. It looks like a previous owner wasn't much up on proper restoration, these are fantastic sound drums. as lucky stated the mahogany interiors are sweet sounding.

According to Dr CJ Wenk that particular badge was used '58-'61. No badges on toms from '61-mid '66 so that narrows this one to '58-'60. The mahogany interior, dual pad muffler and P-040 stamp are all consistent with that era. Expect legs to be straight with push buttons.

Gee, I see Oct 17 1961 stamped by the factory in plain view.

The badge was tampered with and looks glued back in.

I had no idea what that said. I could make out the 17, but the rest was pretty blurry. lol

And yeah, the badge was definitely messed with. I feel like someone tried to restore it or re-wrap it and gave up or something. Some lugs have 1 washer per screw on the inside and some have up to 6. Obviously the drum wasn't reassembled how it was before it was taken apart.

Oh cool! I don't know much about this era of drums so I'm not familiar with "push button", but that lets me know what to Google to learn more.

If date stamp is Oct 1961 then badge is not original to drum.

I don`t see the 48 either, it may be possibly an order cancelled and sent out later.

But, wasn`t the badge without the postal 48 a much lighter blue ? This I swear is the darker gunmetal blue badge from 60+
