This poor drum used to be painted white (see photos). I attempted to remove said paint, and it didn't want to come off without hurting the original black/gold duco finish. Now it's more of a black/blue/gold/silver duco. ��
This was also my first attempt at redoing a bottom head. It isn't pretty, but it's actually fully functional and sounds good.
The good:
- Thick 3-ply maple/poplar/mahogany shell (with maple reinforcement rings) is in near-perfect condition
- Mahogany interior is beautiful!
- Bearing edges are near-perfect
- All nickel hardware is original and in good condition
- Legible interior date stamp (September 1938)
- Rare original wood hoop with gold sparkle inlay
- It sounds great!
The bad:
- Original black/gold duco finish has seen better days
- Badge is missing (There are two small pin-size holes above the key holder, where the badge should be. The holes don't go all the way through the shell)
- Bottom inlay is broken in a few spots, but is stable
- Some very slight plating loss on a few parts
