Drumaholic is the originator of the Zildjian cymbal timeline. Rob Scott and others have taken his information and published it as their own without giving Bill the credit due him. Bill created both the time line and the naming conventions that are in standard use today. He is THE expert on vintage A and K Zildjian cymbals, period. So you have to understand his frustration when someone questions his opinion and uses, as evidence, a website based on his research without his permission. Bill stopped publishing his timeline years ago because of this. The copies that I have are from 2004.
Must this continue? I thought everything was resolved.
That's all fine and dandy. I "get" who he is NOW. How is somebody supposed to know that without having been told? It's like meeting somebody at a cafe, having a nice conversation with them, and then later somebody tells you, "WHAT?!?!? You didn't realize that was a world-renowned, Nobel Prize-winning neurophysicist?!?!?" Or, in this case, the neurophysicist says to you, "WHAT?!?!? Do you not know who I am? I discovered the chemical transmission of the synapses that started the whole field of study! It starts and stops with me!" To which, MY reaction would be much the same as here, along the lines of, "Whoa, that's cool and all, and nice to meet you, but why are you yelling in my face?"
I mean, for real, am I going to have a conversation with somebody aliased ILuv2DrumWhaddup88Yeah about the questionable originality of a 70s Ludwig mount on a 60s drum and have them come at me with, "I'm Bun E. Carlos, and this is one of my 3 proxy accounts on this site...you'd better bow down, boy! Yeah! That's right! Now what, punk?!?!?" and be expected to have known that and believe that their information is accurate while there is conflicting testimony available for viewing elsewhere on the internet?
Sheesh! I am NOW aware of who he is and what he has done, and I respect his opinion and will take his word for it. I took issue with being told I was "wrong" by some as of then-unknown person, who didn't produce any evidence for his claim against my information (which I *could* back up and provide a link to, but now I know is untrue...), and who accused me of jumping to a conclusion through some leap of logic that I never connected in my original statement. That was my perspective. I say "was" because my perspective has changed since that exchange, through the identification of who he is and his credentials. I am fine with his discounting of my "facts," given his credentials and his explanation. I'm cool with that, despite being put off by his original tone in doing so (which, I'm willing to move past, understanding that there might be a shred of frustration having your viability questioned on a site where, apparently, *almost* everybody knows who you are.
What I'm NOT fine with is the continued revisiting of this exchange. I am over it. I put up a surrender flag and extend a hand to shake towards Mr. Drumaholic, hoping that he has moved past it as well. Now, could everybody else please do the same? Thanks!
