Very old Zildjian 12"

Loading...

I found an old cymbal in the wall of a garage. I am a clarinet player, so I know nothing of these things. It appears in perfect shape. It is very heavy. The logo is one that a blog I looked at dates to 1913. It has a signature on the bottom side. It has a "washer" around the center hole. The maker mark says Zildjian & Cie Constantinople with some Arabic above.

Can you tell me anything about it?

I am not being allowed to upload photos. Maybe someone has an idea on how?

What do you need to know? if you want to sell it you have to weigh it and with the photo if you want to sell it quickly put it up for auction, if it's heavy its value should max $ 40 imho, do not look at those who ask for much more because they do not sell it

bbrandha,

Welcome to the VDF! Posting pics is a little tricky on this site, there is a file size limit and pixel size limit. There is helpful "Sticky" thread explaining it near the top of the General Drum Questions forum. If you can work through that and post a good pic of the cymbal and especially a close-up of the logo stamp, there will be experts (usually Zenstat) that will happily give you very detailed information about it's age, and market value.

Some old cymbals can be very valuable, so don't sell it for $40 until you get it appraised!

Stop stringing and tuning your instrument, make music now.

K zildjian made these for trap kits to be struck by the pedal. Mostly in Europe. All the old SONOR trap kits were cataloged with 12" K`s. Some were 10 as well. THe grommet may also indicate a clapper for concerts. Nobody used or invented drum kits in the teens.

Now if we could see it and the stamp,..More would come.

if heavy as many Costantinople the value will not be very high, it is not rare and little buyers interest, but without knowing the exact weight and the photos it will be impossible to give a value, it could be also the holy grail !

I don`t like thin cymbals, you can`t hit, hit them. The only one I like thinner, is the top HH. I like the bottom very thick. My crash has to be thick and a 20 or 22 ride is gonna be thick too. Most places that I hang around with bands are too loud anyway for thin cymbal. Thin completely sh*ts the bed outside.

the only positive side for you that when you go to buy them you will spend much less than those looking for thinner, for the rest is just a subjective matter ... the thick bottom hi hat is an invention of Avedis with the New Beat, and is a rock solution, personally I prefer similar hat weight or the bottom thinnest, more stick in the top! but it's just subjective thing, thinner is more sensitive, more nuances you can get, but useful thing only if you need! nobody can say better or worse, but Old K thin are certainly much more worth

A heavy 12 as a bottom wont ever fail you. Thin to me limits range. To me thin equals quiet.

that then, talking about vintage quality cymbals, who has experience knows that you take two identical model and weight and one divinely sounds that you would pay $ 2000 and the other, who knows why, sounds not worth even $ 500 ... even more talking about hi hat that the question is multiplied by coupling two cymbals ...

I added this little cutie to my very small Old K collection earlier this month. 11¼", 682g.

Sounds like it is similar to OP's cymbal and the two together might make an interesting pair of hats! :)

BTW, @bbrandha welcome to the forum! To add photos, first I resized to 800x600 on my local computer, then uploaded with the "Manage Attachments" button in the lower portion of the post editing window. Look forward to seeing your cymbal! :)
