Value Of Vintage Ludwig Kit

Loading...

Hi,

I might have the opportunity to purchase a vintage Ludwig Kit this week-end and wanted to get some feedback as to its worth.

It's probable that I'm going to be put in that extremely awkward position (for me at least) of having to make an offer to the current seller, not knowing what's he's actually looking for.

ANYWAY...... the kit consists of a 20 inch bass, 12 inch rack tom and 14 inch floor tom. It's in its original Ludwig White Marine Pearl Wrap. All drums have got their original Keystone Badges, dating the kit to 1968. The shells are in extremely good shape and the wrap's in nice condition also, with the usual even fade on the WMP finish. The sale will not include any cymbals, but a vintage Ludwig hi-hat WILL be included.

Any ideas what I should offer?

THANKS in advance for your help!Cool1

matched badges/dates? 800-1000. It's a "Downbeat" shell pack. I paid around 900 for my red sparkle Downbeat shell pack a few years ago...I already had the Downbeat snare drum so it was a no-brainer for me. I had to buy it! ;)

Offer him 400-500 and see what he says. Does he know drums? Is he a friend?

Hello, O-Lugs,

Appreciate your input (as usual)!

I've been in contact with the current owner since my original post and here's what I've learned:

The gentleman's had the kit for about 30 years. He states that the shells are in excellent condition with no extra holes. He's giving me first crack at the kit only because I was the first one to contact him. It looks like I could get it for $500 BUT ONLY IF I purchase it by tomorrow morning. He's got others willing to pay at least that much. The current owner is not an acquaintance of mine and I don't know anything about him other than that he's a former and/or current drummer.

I still haven't seen the kit, so all the information that I've received has been from the current owner.

I've asked him if he could provide me with the serial numbers on all three drums and also asked if the toms come with the original Ludwig mufflers.

I'm awaiting his response.

ANY ADDITIONAL "WORDS OF WISDOM"?

Thanks!

I've asked him to

I have been cheking out Ludwig kits around here(chicago area) and they have been going for at the least 800.00 and thats not the jazz sizes. If they are in as good a shape as he says I would go for it. Good luck

If it's a club date set, with the center lugs, $500 is a good deal...if the drums are "super classics" or normal, not center lug, they're worth more...this of course, if they're in decent, un-modified condition.

If you keep bugging the seller with questions, you may lose them. Go see them and bring the cash.
