Value of a Super Sound King? Last viewed: 16 minutes ago

Loading...

I do spend a fair amount of time looking for Slingerland COB/COS Sound Kings and see few Super Sound Kings.

Are they pretty rare as they're scarcity would indicate, or are they just one of those designs that never caught on for some reason. That said, can someone provide an estimate of their value, or a range, for one that is in good overall condition, no extra holes or rust?

Thanks very much.

Here's a picture of an SSK I had about 5 years ago. I completed it with NOS Slingerland (Evans) Cad Cam heads, top and bottom, and Puresound wires. I never did get the drum to sound very good and have always preferred a Ludwig SuperSensitive over the SSK. Had I held onto the drum and sold it now, I've no doubt it would have sold for quite a bit!!!

The value is what someone is willing to pay. I got mine for less than $200...but that was 5 years ago! The biggest problem I see now is that too many dealers are asking way too much for their vintage drums. This causes private sellers to list for higher amounts as welll. I'm sure many of you on this forum know of quite a few sellers who are constantly listing their vintage drums for way too much. They never sell, but the seller keeps re-listing them over and over...and over...and still never sells them. There are still good deals to be found, but eBay prices...and local Craigslist prices, have all skyrocketed. It's madness I tell you!
