you maybe right with your guess, looks like a trigger system, thats why the damper always touches the batterhead...i begin to understand:-)

Looks like the small black housing on the reso/snare side is a trigger for the snare side. 2 wires going to the PCB.

I am still wondering what is in the mystery black bag under the white damper pad.

No wires coming from white damper pad.

So most likely no piezo in the pad.

for the two line of sets:

they had a pressure sensitive gum rubber disc (transducer) that was just touching the bottom side of the head (like a vintage Ludwig muffler) each drum plugged into a control box where you could modify the sound and volume. From there you plugged into a bass amp or the PA system
