camco snare was included in a mid 70's slingerland kit I bought last weekend.
Wondering about value, age and model #. I learned the Made in Japan badge
is post 1972 and thats all I could find on the forum and web.
It's 5x14 has 10 lugs and is very heavy. It has some minor pitting, but I think it will clean up nice.

The round, blue badge dates from any time after '67. And there is actually no way to pin it down more than that. It is a Star model 8258 if it is 5x14, no matter what badge it has...Does it have the dual tension strainer?

The strainer and lugs could be maby different types. M ine has the Apollo lugs that look like Sonor lugs, and the strainer is a really cool one, and it has a "dual" tension set-up, sort of a "micro-sensitive" style as seen here:

Mine has the 940 Super Strainer and 941 Fast Tension snare plate.
So, is this the snare you are looking at? Or rather, is this the snare you have?
Sorry, you did ask for a value....need to see it before giving up that info, as it's condition will affect greatly the final value. Can you post it for us?

This is the snare in question. It is a TAMA era Camco 10 lugger. Chrome over steel, and IMHO, it is worth around 50-75, tops. If it had been an original Lawndale or Oaklawn, or weeds in the yard....it may have been a homerun, but as iut is it will sound pretty good if you clean it and really get it tuned right. It is really similar to the earlier Star models, and the same era TAMA stuff.

Don't get me wrong, these snares are nice. They sound thick and fat, but they are not sought after because, once again, they are considered second rate,and they aren't, they are good drums, just not held in high esteem. Clean it up and let's see, it could bring more, because the same era TAMA King Beat and the other COS snares tend to bring a bone or more, and some times closer to 2hunski.
I am so glad that I joined this forum. I learn something new everyday. There are alot of very knowledgeable vintage experts here on the forum..
