UV damaged Satin FLame/Moire?

Is there any way to bring back a 60's Satin Flame/Moire wrap that has been faded by sunlight? I've cleaned with "Scrubbing Bubbles" which lifted dust and dirt pretty well, but the Blue Moire is on the verge of a grayish-white finish. Any comments appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi kdg!

I saw your same post over at DFO. As dtk said, "once it's gone, it's gone"!

Here are some pictures of my MIJ Revelle snare drum, in Blue Satin Flame. I purchased it like this! Must have sat on a shelf that faced a window for a very long time. Sun fade on 2.5 panels. The rest looks good, though! The snare drum above it is a mid-60's Star, wrapped in original Gold Eddy Satin Flame. Pretty much perfect! I keep it away from the sun!

Thanks Mark!

Your drums look a lot better than this one. This was a players kit that was nested between gigs IN THE BACK OF A PICKUP TRUCK IN ALASKA!!!!

So, I'm happy to have a 20-12-14 Camco with all the pieces there but I have some rough bearing edges to deal with due to the nesting and the Moire finish is also very rough and chipping at the edges (and the cigarette smoke discoloration on the interior, etc).

I have thus far been unable to find a Blue Moire wrap that has the 60's color/wave pattern except for a taped version offered by Jammin' Sam's.

Hi Kurt!

Sounds like you've got your resto project cut out for you! And, yes, modern satin flame just doesn't have the same "wave" pattern as the original.

This is the last drum to be detailed and painted. I've finished cleaning and polishing all the hardware down to the washers and inserts and springs. It's a long job, but they sure do pop now.

I need to glue down some wrap that is lifting, re-paint the interior, one more "Scrubing Bubbles" on the wrap and then I put it back together.

Eventually I'll need to send it out to get the bottom bearing edges that were exposed for so many years re-done.

This is interesting..... this is a 20" BD with a one piece wrap (one seam).

Kurt,

That is interesting that the 20 BD is a one-piece wrap!
