I always clean my shells with Novus 1 first, then I decide whether or not to step up to #2. I've used #3 on a drum I didn't have a huge attachment to. Make sure you follow the directions as far as application, it makes a difference. I also use 2 rags for each Novus, just to make it nicer and get rid of some old socks..

If your snare rash is the typical gouges rather than just light scratches, I don't think Novus 3 will get them out.

I have used each grade quite a bit over the last few years. Novus 3 is pretty aggressive for drum wraps and can cause fresh probs if you aren't gentle and watching carefully. I use it sparingly and by hand. Most of the time I only use 1 and 2 and mostly manually.

I agree with everyone here! No need to worry as long as you take your time and do it by hand! I novus 1 and 2'd my Clubdate and the deep shine you get is really awesome! I say go for it and good luck! Also I don't know if anyone else does this but I use novus 1 on most any drum or hardware that I own, seems to be a nice light cleaner that leaves a pretty shine!

Used these products a lot, great results. I don't think any of the Novus are very abrasive at all. The only thing I would add is to use Mother's Brand car wax as a finishing step. Makes everything pop and shine much as is possible for vintage wrap - and it's a protectant to a certain extent. The Novus system is really for lighter scratches, as has been said previously. If you have more serious scratches or serious yellowing you just can't live with - then there's the wet sanding method before the Novus treatment. Start with like 800 grit and keep going through 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, then 3 Novus, 2 Novus, 1 Novus to clean things up and then wax. Everything by hand always. It's extremely time-consuming with questionable value-add. I've done one entire 5-piece pearl wrap kit and an entire 6-piece Vistalite kit like that. They are drums I don't plan on selling and I'm very satisfied with the result. But it took me forever and a day to complete that process for each drum. For resale, almost 100% of the time it is better to leave things untouched.

Novus is great!I had a gouge that was a real problem.Of course it didn't disappear but Became less noticeable.First I used 1000 grit automotive wet/dry sandpaper .Then 5000 grit and then Novus no.3, then no.2,then no 1.Worked well.
