US mercury- yay or nay?

Loading...

Never heard of them. A friend of a friend has a US Mercury set (MIJ) he wants to sell for $100. It comes with a snare, bass and two mounted toms. The floor tom is a newer Percussion Plus. When he mentioned "US Murcury" I thought it was a newer cheapo company.

What little info I found on them on the net I've gathered its probably gonna be a cheapy set. But hey- I'm gonna ask you guys! What's up?

US Mercury were made by Star (later to become TAMA) in the late 60s to early 70s. For a hun, they could be worth it, depending on condition and wrap color. Can you get me some pix? I would like to see the lugs, the snare strainer and interior of the shells. I can give you better info and a better evaluation with those pix. If they are done in Peacock Pearl, definitely grab them. Get the pix and I can tell you more about them.

Agree with Jonni. Those mercurys have the coolest wraps Ive ever seen. Years ago I traded a set to a friend (for a Big beat clear Vistalite!!!!) and he still has it. He worked on the edges and throw some Ambassadors there, And man! They Do sound sweet!
