It's a subtle affirmation, designed to encourage, students of percussion.
as in U ken play better, U ken play better, U ken play better----kind of a mantra. It was designed by a former lecturer in musical psychology, Ken Handler, at the university of El Segundo. Ken had formerly played second fiddle to the domineering, appointed leader of Barbie and the Rocker's, or at least his namesake did, anyway, so he knew first hand(probably second hand as well), what it was like to be a puppet. His first love(in music ,that is) was truely,punk------one of his great inspirations being The New York Dolls and had he been more in control of his own destiny he would have preferred the name of the band to have been Ken and the Deformed. But fate was not on his side and when , it didn't turn out to be as plastic as he would have liked,he eventually turned to helping others. Strange, that he chose to imprint his mantra on calfskin drumheads---- probably , some deepseated lust for a taste of reality, finally.
