I've had a Harbour Freight unit for 2 years. Works best after bits have already been pre-cleaned soak/tumbler etc... Tension rods/strainers/lugs it gets the deep rust on such. Bonus, Wife points in that does a great job on rings and such. Think paid $30 USD with coupon. Has a heater for the container but on/off affair. I just poke a temp probe in. 140 degrees F. works well for drum parts. It takes awhile. Unit timer is 9 minutes. 15 min. cool down for the motor. I keep container temp at 140 during rest cycle. Couple of runs through ultrasonic and brush off. Back in and one more cycle bits are very easy to polish. Any questions, just ask.

I have one that my father in law, a retired watch repair man, gave me. Not a large one but works well for tension rods, lugs and other smaller parts. The key to them is using them properly. The parts can not sit on the bottom of the unit and need to either sit in the holding tray (typically provided), or suspended in the ultrasonic fluid. I actually use one of the eco friendly rust removers suspended in a zip lock plastic bag with the parts inside. I hang it using clips and a bent coat hanger so the bag is suspended right in the middle of the Ultrasonic bath water. I run them through a few heated cycles of about 5 min each and the parts come out nice and clean. Like Creighton, I was on my way to HF with my coupon and my wife told me her dad said he had one for me. Saved $30 and I love it. Next investment will be a tumbler.

2.5 Litre model. Solution yes, just depends what is going in. Best to not mix materials. Rusted steel will leave a mess on chrome lugs if in same batch.

Great tips!! I as well suspend with wire. Thin copper wire is easy to make whatever fixture needed. Only get a vibrating tumbler. Rotating ones will rub parts together. I have a small one and the 5lb Harbor Freight. The HF works ok. Gotta isolate the base on foam pads or something. Will rattle itself death otherwise. Crushed walnut shells and I put polish on lugs before they go in. Amazing results. Will need a set of small tapered brushes to get the shells out of lug thread points. Would like to convert a washing machine for for rims :-).

I don't put lug tension rod inserts or the screws to hold lugs. UltraSonic works better for those.

Nice unit and 2L should work well. Mine is much smaller.

I like that it is programmable with the time and temp.

I tried out my cleaner tonight on some MIT lugs I had lying around...I set the temperature to 50C (122F) and left them in for 15 mins...I added a few drops of Dawn dish soap...

I`m impressed!! I still will play around with it more to see which setting will work best...

The "after" cleaning lug is on the top of each pic...I only dried the lug with a towel and did not polish it...I put 8 lugs in the cleaner which is about the maximum this unit could clean at once...
