Two lug types??

Loading...

Found this vintage ad while trying to accumulate information on the 1960's MIJ drums. It appears that the kit has two different set of lugs. One being the Hoshino type, the other being the Slingerland clones. Am I just seeing things, or is this correct?? Could this also point to Hoshino having made the Slingerland clones?

Hi Jay!

I've seen this before, where there are different lug styles. Many times, it's just a production change and a drum with an older lug style is combined with drums with the newer lug style. You also see a completely different lug on the snare drum!

Jay you have one sharp eye for details pal

So far in my bunch, the only "molded hoops" are on non star hoshino kits

Most recently my pal Rich gave me a distressed orange sparkle rectangular badged Zim Gar kit minus a snare

the kit has double mounted toms on a rail

the bass, floor tom, and one mounted tom are all Star the other mounted tom is non star Hoshino

I figured right away that the mis-match was a modification by a past owner

But the same two lug styles are involved as with this ad picture

My gut tells me coincidence in my case
