Tuning key fitment on an 1978 SS

Hey everyone

I got a 1978 Ludwig SS 14" x 6,5" for about two years now.

I use a DW (camco style) drum key for tuning, but it's always hard to turn the bolts with that key.

It seems that the hoop flange gets in the way...

Maybe the hoops are the problem not the key?

What key do you guys use on a vintage supra?

What do the original hoops look like?

Some vintage hoop flanges get in the way of a thick-barrelled or long-barrelled drum key. What you need for that vintage drum is a vintage or vintage style drum key. The 1950s and 1960s drum keys were pretty much generic with the brand name stamped on the T- handle.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

yeah....you'll just have to use a different shape of key....The one I use is on my keychain...is.....a....Pearl...but one that's ....jeeeez....probably over 20 years old....nevermind...:(

I just did a Google for generic drum keys....SO many choices....and most of them look dumb...Personally, I prefer the old Rogers key....but I'm not using mine because of the value....ridiculous...(love it)

I'll let someone else advise you as to which new keys work on old, fat triple flange rims. I've been out of it longer than I thought....no idea anymore!

Yeah, Grantro is correct. I bought a 6.5X14" SS in 1976, and it came with that P-40 drum key in a little cloth bag, attached to the one of the tension rods.
