Wow, all this makes me wonder if the 'cut' or scratch marks that are on the wrap near the hoops on my 40s era radio king snare were caused by this method of tucking calf heads with a sharp instrument. That probably could explain it. Fascinating.

Nevermind, sorted it out. Outdated/dead links in this post/Sticky. Google search on "Tucking a calf drum head" and a few Youtube vids provided useful information on how to finish this task.
