Trying to get this kit going

Loading...

Hi all - Looks like I found the right place! A friend of mine gave me these 3 shells. It's an MIJ blue badge with triangular shaped mounting plates. 20 x 14 kick / 12 x 8 - 13 x 9 rack toms. I am missing the floor tom and the rack tom mounting hardware along with a lot of misc items like hoops and lugs.

First off, what is it? From what i've been able to research so far, it's a 70's era

department store special. Possibly made by Pearl?

Next- does anyone here have an orphaned matching floor tom they might want to sell? I'd also be interested in buying any items I am missing.

I'm also posting some bad photographer's (me) pics of it

Thanks in advance - any advice or info is appreciated

Man, start over and buy a whole MIJ set for $150..... by the time you find and purchase matches for everything you need, you will have spent far too much on what you will end up with. Keep what you have for spare parts or sell off the parts you do have.

Welcome! This is an Apollo kit, from the late 60s-early 70s in Blue Satin Flame made by Star (TAMA) as evidenced by the triangular mount plate and tear-drop lugs.. Your kit would include a 16" floor tom. Hang out, we will get the parts you nbeed, and maybe someone has that tom. I have a 16, but not in that color. Look around at the drum supply houses and find the correct color, and maybe I can get you the tom, if it doesn't go to a jungle kit.

Now, now...Once they are worked over...I'll bet you wouldn't even recognize the sound of these WMP you sold me, Kev...not any semblance to what they sounded like before my handy work.

Kev- I know but what the hey it was free.

Jon & Mikey - Thanx for the info and words of encouragement. I think this kit could sound pretty cool. It would be a welcome alternative to my other kit which is really LOUD (unmuted double-head 24" bass drum). I would like to use this as a recording kit maybe.

Jonni, I never put a stick to them, so I wouldn't know.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No floor, no snare, missing hoops and lugs, heads, t-rods.....................

Unless matching finishes and hardware is not a concern....

What am I saying, there's a zero investment so far, why put

any money into this project at all when you can get a whole set for.......................

It's your money, time, patience, and frustration.... do whatever

But, I stand by my view on this one.

BTW, I have some lugs and t-rods you can have for shipping only.

I have a Revelle snare shell you can re-wrap and some MIJ rims for a price.

PM me if you are interested in any or all, and I'll send some pics.

Maybe it will help get you started on your mission..................:)

You're right, Kev...this one...maybe best for parts. I get all glossy-eyed...ya know...anyway, as for the tom, finding it may be fun...and a big pain. The parts, if you find another Apollo with this hardware, would be better put to use in that manner.

I would definitely keep the drums intact, and be on the lookout for a floor, and proceed when I find one.

But spending money today on something that may never happen in 20 years of tomorrows, just makes no sense to me.

Someone has been selling satin flame recovering material on Ebay for reasonable money-check it out-don't recall the color choices.
