1 ply birdseye maple shell with re-rings, Slingerland lugs and rims and Trick GS007 strainer.
True North birdseye maple
way cool. snare drum!!!. is it a vaughncraft shell?? Clapping Happy2
The shell was made by a gentleman who lives in southern Ontario. He purchased the wood from a company that specializes in marine exploration and recovery of rare and exotic timbers , which have been submerged for up to 150 years. I think he made 50 shells like this one, most of which were shipped to a drum company in the states (I can't remember which one).
Very cool you have a very unique snare drum, DW used a company called the underwater mining company to retrieve some tree's like the one you have they made a line of drums called the timeless timber series, and it was johnny craviotto who built the drums for DW
The wood for this drum came from The Antique Timber Company. They recovered the wood from Fairy Lake (north of Toronto) near the site of a miil that burnt down in 1904. The gentleman who made this snare also made some kits, a friend of mine bought a 6pc solid cherry kit (stave construction) off him, and man is it gorgeous.
Hey Jeff...you're right, I bought it off Wayne a couple of years ago. He was retiring and selling off most of his drums and I was fortunate enough to buy this beauty off him. One odd thing about this snare is that it doesn't have a vent. I was thinking of puting one in....what do you think?
I saw your set of Slingerlands you put together out of the NOS shells and I gotta say that kit looks absolutely stunning!
Cheers!
Cam
Thanks for the info Jeff. I have always found this drum a little difficult to tune, but once its dialed in it sounds fantastic. I think I'll leave it alone.
Thanks again, Cam
